Management Science Professor takes over EURO presidency

13 December 2016

Richard Eglese

A LUMS Professor will take over as the president of a prestigious Operational Research society in the new year.

Professor Richard Eglese, from the Department of Management Science, will take over as President of EURO from January 1st.

Not to be confused with the football competition or the common European currency, EURO is the name given to the Association of European Operational Research Societies (www.euro-online.org).  The Association’s aim is to promote Operational Research (OR) throughout Europe and it currently has at least 30 national member societies including the OR Society in the UK. There are many active EURO Working Groups where researchers are able to get together on specialised OR topics and EURO also organises general conferences, the last of which was held in Poznan, Poland in July and was attended by about 1800 participants.

Richard said: “I am particularly interested in the support EURO gives to young researchers through PhD Schools and bursaries for PhD students to attend training courses. I hope that EURO will be able to continue and strengthen these initiatives to help the next generation of OR researchers.”

Richard’s term of office as President will be for two years.
